Obituary

Joyce Christina (Hanna) Beougher was born on August 30, 1938 at Plum Creek in Jerome Township in Gove County. She was the second child to William I. "Hap" & Edna C. (Johnson) Hanna. She passed away Wednesday May 5, 2010 at Hays Medical Center at the age of 71.


Joyce grew up in Gove County, attended Gove Grade School, graduated from Gove Rural High School in 1956 as valedictorian and attended Fort Hays State University.


On January 11, 1959 she married the love of her life William "Bill" Beougher in the Methodist Church of Gove. Gove was their home for almost their entire married life. Into this union five children were born.


Joyce worked as the deputy county clerk of Gove County for 25 years, was a part-time mail carrier and mail clerk for the Gove Post Office for over 25 years and the Gove Postmaster for seven years. After her retirement she served as officer for many local and national organizations; including the Gove Senior Center, Gove Community Bible Church, Christian Women's Fellowship, Gove High School Alumni Committee, NARFE, and NAPUS, just to name a few.


Those left to mourn her passing are her loving husband Bill of Gove, two sons Cory Beougher and wife Charlene of Downs, Stacy Beougher of Manhattan; three daughters, Danita "Deni" Tanzer and husband Gregg, Bennington, Darcy Simmons and husband Steve, and Jodi Purvis and husband Glenn all of Colorado Springs; one sister Beverly Chapman and husband Jack "Ed" of Las Cruces, New Mexico, one sister-in-law Gloria Hanna, Cusseta, Alabama; eight grandchildren Craig and wife Erin of Topeka, Cala Beougher Gateway, Colorado, Paige Tanzer Bennington, Nathan Beougher and friend Autum Garrett, Tameka and Janina Simmons, and Jarrod Purvis, all of Colorado Springs, and Courtney Purvis and friend Tony Morton, Salisbury, Maryland; four great-grandchildren, Ryiah and Xavion Beougher, Colorado Springs, Kobi Morton, Salisbury, Maryland and Carter Beougher, Topeka, Kansas; and many brother and sister-in-laws, and nieces and nephews.


Preceding her in death were her parents, a sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Kermit "PeeWee" Chapin and a brother Mike Hanna.


Joyce was a faithful Christian, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who had unconditional love for everyone. She was a very active member of the community volunteering her time to be committee member for Old Settler's Day, a UMYF leader, Vacation Bible School and Sunday School teacher and softball coach. Joyce will be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation for Joyce will be 6-8 PM Sunday, May 9, 2010 at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter, KS. Services will be held Monday, May 10, 2010 at 10:30 AM in the Gove Community Bible Church at Gove, KS.
