Obituary

John Joseph Pfeifer was born April 9, 1919 to the late Joseph and Barbara (Schafer) Pfeifer in St. Peter, KS. He passed away May 8, 2012 at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at the age of 93.

John was the youngest of thirteen children. He attended St. John's Military Academy in Hays, KS for three years. He completed the 8th grade in a single room school in rural Graham County, one mile south of his family farm.

On May 29, 1939 he married Anna (Schreiner) Pfeifer at the Catholic Church in Victoria, KS. They were married for 69 years until Anna passed away on August 15, 2008.

Thoughout John's life he loved training horses. He was a farmer and stockman for many years. He was very active in the Morland Plainsmen Saddle Club and was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus member in St Peter and Park, KS. He belonged to the St. Anthony's Catholic church in St. Peter all of his life.

Left to mourn his passing is a son Larry Pfeifer and wife, Elaine of Marysville, KS; two daughters, Elaine Henne and husband, Larry of Holyrood, KS and Karen Gebhard, and husband, Drake of Long Island, KS. Seven grandchildren, Lance Henne, Bryan Pfeifer, , Garth Gebhard, Marvin Gebhard, Eunice Zamrlza, Marla Mooney, and Alana Pfeifer and six great-grandchildren, Braden Mooney, Mallory Mooney, Leyton Mooney, Xander Mooney, Landry Gebhard, and Jaycee Gebhard. Along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Preceding him in death are five brothers, Frank Pfeifer, Paul Pfeifer, Pete Pfeifer, Joe Pfeifer, and Mike Pfeifer; three sisters, Elizabeth Heisel, Anna Rohleder, Mary Pfeifer, and four infant siblings.

Services will be 10:00 am Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Peter, KS.

Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney, KS. Vigil begins at 7:00.
