Obituary

Jeffery Lee Dewayne Simpson, 51, of WaKeeney, KS, passed away on November 1, 2024, of natural causes. Jeff was born on December 15, 1972, in Liberal, KS. He graduated from Rangeview High School in Aurora, CO, and later earned an associate's degree from the Denver Art Institute. Jeff proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Gulf War Conflict for five years as a Mid Pac Diver.

For 25 years, Jeff worked as an electrician in Arizona. Jeff was an active member of the Brotherhood of Electrical Engineers. He enjoyed reading Western novels, which fueled his admiration for John Wayne, and he spent much of his free time working on his 1989 Mazda MX6. While Jeff had many interests, nothing quite matched his fervor for the Kansas City Chiefs. Jeff's love for the team was lifelong and unwavering. He was never a fair-weather fan; win or lose. He was a man who never gave up on his team.

Jeff is survived by his daughter, Ashley; his mother, Jody Zeman; his sister, Jennifer Hildreth (Brian) of Chandler, AZ; his nephew, Ryan Hildreth of Houston, TX; his niece, Nicole Hildreth of Tucson, AZ; and his grandmother, Jean Hafenstine of WaKeeney, KS. He is also survived by his uncles, Mark Zeman (Deanna) of WaKeeney, KS, and Jim Salley (Tina) of Midlothian, VA; his aunts, Dwana Zahn (Kendal) of Ellis, KS, and Diana Carr of Colorado Springs, CO; along with many cousins, other family members, and his closest lifelong friends, Jay Mestas, West Locke, Trent Rogelstadt, and Carrie Curvin.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Richard Simpson; his grandfather, Dwayne Zeman; his Papa and Granny, Red and Alyce Simpson; and his uncle and aunt, Doug and Russ Zeman, as well as uncle Bruce Simpson and aunt Cheri Salley.

A funeral service and inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in WaKeeney, KS. Pastor Robby of Generations Church will officiate.
