Jane Schmidtberger, age 90, of Quinter (formerly of Grainfield), passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Gove County Medical Center – Long Term Care. She was born August 14, 1923, in Collyer, the daughter of George Joseph and Susan (Zimmerman) Lipp.
Jane was a 1942 graduate of Park High School. On June 21, 1943, Jane was united in marriage to Dick Waldman in Park. They enjoyed 31 years of marriage together. Two daughters came from this union. Dick passed away on October 4, 1974. On August 28, 1976, Jane married Victor Schmidtberger in Oakley. They have been married 37 years. He survives her.
Jane was a devoted person; to her faith, her family, and her work. She was known for her work ethic on the farm and at any job she worked. She spent many years working for the ASC office, and co-owned Dick's Insurance Agency with her late husband. Jane will be dearly missed by her husband Victor; one daughter Donna (Waldman) Garrett of Park; two sisters Frances Chism of Denver and Julie Hodge of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; grandchildren Brian (Sonya) Garrett of Hays, Kim (Greg) Schoenfeld of Wichita, Jeremy (Trisha) Garrett of Maple Hill, and Erin Garrett of Overland Park; great-grandchildren Kendahl and Abby Garrett of Hays, Emily, Payton, Paul, and Kory Schoenfeld of Wichita, and Samantha and Valerie Garrett of Maple Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Dick, daughter Darla Waldman, brother George Leon Lipp, sister Irene (Lipp) Goetz, and son-in-law Delbert Garrett.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a parish vigil service to take place at 5:45, and a rosary at 7:00. This will all take place at Sacred Heart Church in Park.
