James "Joe" Faulkner, age 88, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney. Joe was born March 10, 1926, in Trego County, to James and Sarah (Kilkenney) Faulkner.
Joe was a Trego Community High School graduate and a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He served our country during World War II. He was a lifelong Ogallah area resident. Joe farmed and ranched most of his life. He was very interested in history, having served as a member of the Trego County Historical Society. He was also a member of the Trego Grain Corporation. Joe was a car collector. He loved to participate in Cruzin' Night at Mike's Place, where he would often bring his 1933 Chevy Coupe. He enjoyed going to area dirt track car races. Joe will be dearly missed by many.
Survivors include two nieces, Nan and husband Ian Waldie of Seattle, Washington, Maureen and husband Doug Eason of Parker, Colorado, and Tyler Hamilton of WaKeeney; nine great nieces and nephews, Wendy, Kilian, Jessica, Monica, Justin, Sarah, Dan, Lisa, and Nick; and many great-great nieces and nephews, wonderful cousins, and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Therese Irene Hamilton; and a nephew, Thomas Hamilton.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Collyer, with military honors by the U.S. Navy.
Visitation will be Saturday, from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.
