Obituary

Jacob William Keller was born September 27, 1916, to the late Antone and Barbara (Derzapf) Keller in Hays, KS. He passed Saturday, March 19, 2011 in the Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care in Quinter at the age of 94.

Jake was raised on a farm north of Grainfield. His father, Tony, passed away in 1925, leaving Jake at an early age to take responsibility of farming with his mother as well as working for Shaw Motor Company in Grainfield.

On October 10, 1938, Jake was united in marriage to Josephine Zimmerman in Park, KS.

In 1945, Jake went into business for himself. He formed a partnership in 1947 and owned the J.I. Case franchise and the Dodge and Plymouth auto franchise. The business was moved to Quinter in 1949 when a new building was built and Jake moved his family to Quinter in the summer of 1950. The partnership dissolved in 1951 and after encouragement from Grainfield residents, Jake rented a building in Grainfield and was back in business with his own Case franchise. He enjoyed driving his truck and delivering equipment.

He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both of Grainfield. Whenever time permitted, Jake and Josie loved to polka dance. Summertime meant it was time for boating and fishing with the family. Jake and Josie enjoyed traveling to many places by air, ship and in their motor home.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry and wife, Kristy, Ramona, CA, Robert 'Bob' and wife, Susan, Kenny and wife, Cindy, all of Quinter; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

His wife, Josie; a brother, Charles Keller; and five sisters, Mary Malsom, Eva Heinrich, Frances Moore, Regina Katt and Magdelena Hein, preceded him in death.

Visitation for Jake will be 5:30-7:00 PM Wednesday, at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter, KS with Vigil Service at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Thursday, March 24, 2011 in St. Agnes Catholic Church at Grainfield, KS with interment in Grainfield Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to St. Agnes Catholic Church and can be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 S Main, Quinter, KS 67752.
