Irene Cornelia Purinton was born January 14, 1921, in Lebanon, KS, to Frank Emerson and Anna Laura (Remington) Royce. She passed away Monday, August 13, 2012, in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney at the age of 91.
She attended Independence Grade School, graduated from Lebanon High School, and attended Brown-Mackie Business School for one year.
On September 15, 1946, Irene was united in marriage to Leonard Purinton in the United Methodist Church at Smith Center. Together they farmed at the Cross L Ranch south of Collyer.
Irene was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the WaKeeney Order of the Eastern Star Margaret Chapter #249.
She enjoyed traveling the entire country including Canada and Mexico. She enjoyed cooking and cherished the time spent with her family.
She leaves to mourn her husband, Leonard, of the home; four sons, Wayne Purinton and wife, Sandy, of WaKeeney, Chuck Purinton, Ron Purinton and wife, Cindy, all of Sacramento, CA, Ed Purinton and wife, Debby, of WaKeeney; five grandchildren, Troy Purinton, Gina Herren & husband, Chris, Royce Purinton and wife, Megan. Clete Purinton & wife, Ashleigh, Shawnee Legere & husband, Scott; and nine great-grandchildren, Madelyn Del Greco, Chloe Purinton, Gabriele Herren, Isaac Purinton, Elizabeth Herren, Katherine Herren, Zack Purinton, Amelia Purinton, and Caroline Purinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Howard Royce and Carl Royce; a sister Becky Langdon; and a daughter-in-law, Donette Purinton.
Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 17, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church in WaKeeney KS. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney, KS.
