Hilda Fern Deines was born August 2, 1916, in Otis, KS, to Jacob and Elizabeth (Kaiser) Ochs. She passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009, in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney, KS at the age of 93.


She attended schools in rural Rush County, KS.


On December 5, 1937, Hilda married Louis Deines in Galatia, KS. The following years were spent farming together on a farm three miles northwest of Zion Lutheran Church until moving to WaKeeney in 1973. Louis passed away December 14, 2005.


Hilda was a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church and WELCA. She was very active in the church teaching Sunday School and Bible School. Hilda also enjoyed cooking and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. Most of her time was dedicated to caring for others.


Survivors include two sons, Larry and wife, Audrey, of WaKeeney, Robert and wife, Cynthia, of Show Low, AZ; nine grandchildren, Roger Deines and wife, Amy, Marty Deines, Rex Deines, Chad Deines and wife, Marjean, Erika Perry and husband, Judd, Robert Deines and wife, Elaine, Randall Deines and wife, Erin, Craig Deines and wife, Sonya, Suzanne Humston and husband, Grant; numerous great-grandchildren; and a brother, Arnold Ochs of Otis.


Preceding her in death was her husband, Louis; a son, Duane Deines; a grandson, Brett Deines; a sister, Esther Dumler; and three brothers, Clarence, Arthur, and Wilmer Ochs.


Services for Hilda were held Monday, September 28, 2009 in Zion Lutheran Church at Trego Center with Pastor Jon Anderson officiating. Interment is in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
