Obituary

Henry Deines was born October 1, 1915 on the family farm ten miles SW of WaKeeney, KS. He was the sixth son born to the late Fred W. and Catherine M. (Fabrizius) Deines.

In his first eight years of school, he and his siblings, rode a horse and buggy to a one-room country school three miles from their farm. He was an avid sports participant in football and basketball during his high school years. He graduated from Trego Community High School with the class of 1934.

On November 16, 1941, Henry was united in marriage to Viola L. Hoffman in St. John's Lutheran Church in Ellis. He was then called to serve in the United States Army during WWII. He served two years in the South Pacific. During this time, Henry didn't see Viola for these two years and he felt that this was his harsh punishment for getting married.

In 1946, Henry became affiliated with the Principal Financial Group along with other interests for the remainder of his working years. He retired in 1980.

Henry had farming and banking interests. He served on boards of banks and expanded his insurance interest. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Big Creek Golf Association of which he was instrumental in organizing, Randall Reid VFW Post #3449, American Legion Moore Post #197, all in WaKeeney, and the Kansas Senior Invitational Golf Association.

Survivors include his wife, Viola, of WaKeeney; three daughters, Janet Clark and husband, Mike, of Halstead, Julie Deines of Chicago, IL, Judith Landes and husband, Chris, of Lees Summit, MO; four grandchildren, Nathan Hudon and wife, Jackie, Rebecca Galloza and husband, Dan, Patrick Clark and wife, Shanna, Jonathan Clark; and four great-grandchildren, Dean, Ella, and Leah Clark and, and Charlotte Galloza.

His parents and ten brothers, Luther, Arthur, Rudolph, Hubert, Martin, Samuel, Fred, Albert, Palmer, and Oscar Deines preceded him in death.
