Helen Zimmerman was born on September 19, 1924, in Ness City, KS, to the late Frank J. and Catherine (Dinkel) Pfeifer. She passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at the age of 89 in Grainfield, KS.
On April 15, 1947, Helen was united in marriage to Jacob "Jake" Zimmerman at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, St. Peter, KS. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage together.
Helen was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, served as Catechist for thirty plus years and was a member of the parish Christian Mothers, Grainfield.
She enjoyed helping out on the family farm for 33 years until retiring and moving into Grainfield in 1980. She treasured time spent with family; especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helen will be dearly missed by many friends and family, including her husband, Jake of the home; five sons: Darold and wife, Beverly of Grainfield, Elmer and wife (the late Yvonne) of Hoxie, Melvern and wife, Darlene of Grainfield, Ronald and wife, Jo Ann of Grainfield, and Reuben Zimmerman of Dighton; eighteen grandchildren; and twenty-four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, Clarence Pfeifer, Allen Pfeifer and Lloyd Pfeifer and three sisters, Pauline Zerr, Caroline Flax and Catherine Heier.
Those preceding her in death were her parents and brothers, Albert Pfeifer and Alvin Pfeifer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday April 11, 2014 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Grainfield. Burial will be in the Grainfield Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the St. Agnes Religious Education Center in Grainfield. A parish vigil service will immediately follow at 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions are suggested to masses or St. Agnes Religious Education and may be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 S. Main, Quinter, KS 67752.
