Obituary

Grace Beesley Dunlap Coberly passed away September 7, 2009 at the Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care in Quinter, KS. She was born September 28, 1911, to John Corra and Nellie May (Gorham) Beesley, and was raised on the family farm in the Missouri Flats area of Gove County, KS.


She graduated from Gove High School and received both a Lifetime Teaching Certificate in 1932 and a B.S. degree in Education in 1964 from Ft. Hays State University.


Grace married Walter Dunlap in June of 1935. The couple resided in Hays, KS before moving to Ft. Worth, TX where they worked in aircraft manufacturing during World War II.


They returned to the Beesley farm and Grace taught at the Missouri Flats school for ten and a half years while pursuing her bachelors degree during the summers.


Following the death of her husband in 1968, Grace married Roscoe Coberly in June of 1969. They enjoyed traveling extensively and divided their time between homes in Missouri Flats, Sun City, AZ, and Hays, KS until Roscoe's death in 2000.


Grace had been a resident of Cedar View Assisted Living Residence in Hays since 2001.


She liked to play cribbage, work crossword puzzles and participate in card games with family and friends. She was a longtime member of the Gove Clotilda Club and Dighton P.E.O., a member of Hays Chapter #228 of Eastern Star, Red Hat Society, and the First United Church of Hays.


Grace was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, Fred, Ray and Jim Beesley; and four sisters, Alice Beesley, Nancy Heard, Mary Weckel, and Edith Homolka.


Survivors are one step-son, Mark Coberly and wife, Cheryl, of Gove; two step-daughters, Judith Ziegenbalg of Heber Springs, AR, and Cathrine Coberly of Amarillo, TX; four grandchildren, Jon Ziegenbalg and wife, Tina, Brett Ziegenbalg and wife, Brandy, Adrian Coberly, Travis Coberly; two great-grandchildren, Kyle Ziegenbalg, Grace Ziegenbalg; and a very special sister-in-law, Bernita Beesley.


Grace was blessed to have many nephews and nieces. She took great interest in their lives and was deeply loved by all who knew her.


Services for Grace will be held Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 10:30 AM in the United Methodist Church at Gove, KS. No visitation is planned.


Memorials are suggested to Hospice Services or the Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care and can be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 S. Main, Quinter, KS 67752.
