Obituary

Glenn A. Cookson, age 83, of WaKeeney, passed away Monday, October 21, 2013 at Hays Medical Center. He was born January 2, 1930 in East St. Louis, Illinois, the son of Joseph and Irma (Gohs) Cookson.

After graduating high school, Glenn served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Prior to living in WaKeeney for over ten years, he spent 50 years in Howard, Kansas. On October 5, 1956, Glenn was united in marriage to Darlene Mavis Dotterer. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage together, until Darlene's death on April 20, 2012. Glenn was a heating and air conditioning technician, as well as an electrician. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge AF & AM #148 and the American Legion Moore Post #197 of WaKeeney. He was a very musical person, as he loved playing the banjo and harmonica. He played in a group that went around to various nursing homes to entertain the residents. Glenn enjoyed farming and ranching in his youth, and later was a great gardener. He was always known for his talent of telling a great story.

Glenn will be missed by two daughters Debra (Everett) Carrell of Pittsburg, and Irene (Max) Dirks of WaKeeney; grandchildren (Debra and Everett's) Katherine, Dallas, Christopher, Danny, Ivan, Natasha, and Gary Carrell, and (Irene and Max's) Lt. Toby (Holly) and Taylor Dirks; and a great-grandchild Julian Carrell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Irma; his wife, Darlene; and two brothers Joseph Robert and Eugene Cookson.

Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Schmitt Funeral Home of WaKeeney. Private inurnment will be at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in WaKeeney.

There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Masonic Scholarship Fund, and may be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 North 12th, WaKeeney, KS 67672.
