Obituary

Lifelong WaKeeney area resident, Gladys M. Jamison, passed away, Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Hays Medical Center. She was 86 years of age. She was born November 15, 1926 on the family farm three miles east and one mile north of WaKeeney, the daughter of Fred and Julia (Hervey) Buchholz.

Gladys attended Rinker School for 8 years and then graduated from Trego Community High School in 1944. She was united in marriage to Morris Jamison on January 20, 1946 in Quinter. They were married by Reverend D.A. Christ, who also conducted services for Morris' parents, when they were married. Soon after graduating high school, she went to work for United Telephone Company as a telephone operator in WaKeeney for many years. Gladys was also a school cook at USD 208 for 17 years. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary #3449 since 1997, and a 30 year member of the Campers and Hikers Association. She was also a past member of the Civil Air Patrol and held a radiotelephone operator permit. She was a dedicated volunteer, helping the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts for many years.

She will be deeply missed by her son Ross (Nancy) Jamison of WaKeeney; her daughter Connie (Gary) White of Sharon Springs; three brothers Roy (Sara) Buchholz of WaKeeney, Duane (Betty) Buchholz of WaKeeney, and LaVerne (Jane) Buchholz of Hillsboro; seven grandchildren Jenni (Rick) Roeder of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Allan (Liana) White of Peculiar, Missouri, Dustin (Rene') Jamison of Mission, Jarod (Kami) Jamison of Kansas City, Preston (Valerie) Jamison of Kansas City, Scott (Kerrie) Keith of WaKeeney, and Tammi (Daniel) Wynn of WaKeeney; and nine great-grandchildren Blake Roeder, Juliana and Vincent Jamison, Ella Jamison, Brooklyn Jamison, Jaida Keith, and Adrian, Ashton, and Acelyn Wynn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister Irene Wheeler, and two brothers Harry and Glenn Buchholz.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Schmitt Funeral Home of WaKeeney. Burial will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Presbyterian Church, the Walk-A-Thon for Health, or the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Endowment Fund and may be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 North 12th, WaKeeney, KS 67672.
