Georgia Lavaughn McNerney was born November 27, 1913, in rural Osborne County, KS, to the late Frank and Maude (Plumb) Applegate. She passed away Sunday, February 12, 2012, in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney at the age of 98.
As a child, she attended schools in Osborne, graduated from Osborne High School with the class of 1933 and attended Fort Hays Normal School.
On January 26, 1935, Georgia was united in marriage to Gerald Wayne McNerney in Russell. She worked as a bookkeeper in the lumberyard that she co-owned with her husband. They enjoyed 74 years of marriage together until Gerald passed away March 23, 2009.
Georgia was very active member of the First United Methodist Church, Chapter CT PEO, and two bridge clubs, all in WaKeeney. She was a great cook, loved horses and gardening, and was an avid sports fan, especially following KU basketball.
Survivors include a son, Neil McNerney, of LaCrosse; a daughter, Roberta 'Bobbi' Kerth, of WaKeeney; five grandchildren, Robbin Kerth and wife, Gwen, Chris Kerth and wife, Tracy, Robert Redman, Miles McNerney, Hal McNerney and wife, Julie; and five great-grandchildren, Preston Calvin, Zachary Calvin, Connor Kerth, Tyler Kerth, Lauren Kerth.
Her husband, Gerald; a daughter, Beverly Sue Redman; a son-in-law, Donald Kerth; two grandchildren, Leslie Calvin, Timothy Kerth; two brothers, Dail and Oscar Applegate; and two sisters, Lavada Bowman and Velda Nelson, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be at the First United Methodist Church, WaKeeney from 9:30-10:15 A.M. opn Wednesday, February 15, 2012 with the funeral service starting at 10:30 A.M.
