Gayle G. Garner was born January 8, 1933, in Table Rock, NE, to Earl and Bernice (Sandusky) Garner. He passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010 in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney, KS at the age of 77.

Gayle graduated from Bedford High School in Bedford, IA in 1952.


He was a United States Army Veteran and served in the Korean War.


On October 13, 1957, he was united in marriage to Mildred Reynolds in the Ogallah Christian Church at Ogallah. To this union, three children were born.

He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in October, 1993. He was a member of the Ogallah Christian Church, a lifetime member and served as Quartermaster of the VFW Post #3449, and a member of the American Legion Moore Post #197, both in WaKeeney, and Hays Shooting Stars Square Dance Club in Hays.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Mildred, of the home; two daughters, Debra Dykema and husband, Darwin, of WaKeeney, Michelle Garner and friend, Doug Gieber, of Manhattan; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Tidball, of WaKeeney; three grandchildren, Amanda Esslinger and husband, Tony, of Ridgecrest, CA, D'Anne Dykema and friend, David Olivas, of Hays, Devin Dykema of WaKeeney; and a great-granddaughter, Abrienna of Ridgecrest, CA; a brother, Hank and wife, Caroline, of Clearfield, IA; and a sister, Cheri Tunnell of Shenandoah, IA.

His parents; a brother Neal; and a son, Allen preceded him in death.


Visitation for Gayle will be 5:30-7:30 PM Friday, July 9, 2010 at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney, KS. Services will be 2:30 PM Saturday, July 10, 2010 in the Ogallah Christian Church. Interment will be in the Ogallah Cemetery.
