Frances "Fannie" Barbara Zerr was born June 16, 1920, on a farm in rural Gove County, KS to the late George and Theresa (Loevenstein) Zimmerman. She passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2010, in the Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care at Quinter at the age of 90.
As a child, she attended rural schools in Gove County. On February 21, 1943, Fannie was united in marriage to Nickolas Zerr. Together, they farmed in rural Gove and she also worked as a waitress for many years. Nicholas passed away October 23, 1973.
She was an active member in St. Agnes Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and the American Legion George M. Scott Post #301 Auxiliary, all in Grainfield. Fannie attended Masses every morning until her health started to fail. In younger years, she helped check cattle when on the farm and loved to tend her yard.
A treasured friend of many, Fannie is survived by a son, Van Zerr, Gove; a daughter, Twona Brungardt, Grinnell; a brother, Jake Zimmerman and wife, Helen, Grainfield; three sisters, Joan Engel and husband, Henry, Oakley, Vicki Zerr, Grainfield, Mactie Uhrich, WaKeeney; six grandchildren, Tim Zerr and wife, Megan, Nick Zerr and wife, Dusty Ann, Curtis Brungardt, Marilyn Mong, Dave Brungardt, Donna Tuttle and husband, Leon; and ten great-grandchildren, Madison, Luke & Claudia Zerr, Nolan Speer, Kolt, Wyatt, Angel and Wendell Mong, Paige & Faith Tuttle.
She was preceded in death by her husband Nickolas; an infant son, Nickolas Jr; daughter-in-law, Claudia Gaye Zerr; son-in-law, Elmer Brungardt; a grandchild, Robert Michael Brungardt; a brother, Joe Zimmerman; and two sisters, Margaret Deges and Anna Mary Heier.
Services were Saturday, November 27, 2010 at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Father James Thomas officiating. Burial was in the Grainfield Cemetery, Grainfield, KS.
