Obituary

Florence Edna Hladek, age 97, of WaKeeney, passed away Monday, February 1, 2016 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney. She was born September 18, 1918 in Russell, Kansas to the late John George and Kathryn (Eichman) Michaelis.

Florence and family moved to Trego County in 1929 to a farm southwest of WaKeeney. In 1936, her family moved into WaKeeney. On February 19, 1938, Florence was united in marriage to Edward A. Hladek. They enjoyed 47 years of marriage together, until Ed's death on December 28, 1985. They lived on a farm southwest of WaKeeney, until 1946, when they moved west of Collyer to farm. To this union, were born two sons, Donald and Darrell. She worked for 35 years at the Quinter Long Term Care as a Certified Medical Assistant. In 2000, Florence moved to Keeney Village in WaKeeney.

Florence and Ed could be found at many dances out on the dance floor having a wonderful time. She was known for her skills in the kitchen, baking and cooking. A family favorite was her Cherry Rolls; they were a special treat, always made with love. Florence loved to mow. Even in her later years, she would spend time on the farm, out mowing. She loved it because it was such a peaceful time for her. Florence had a long and fruitful life; her memory will be left in the hearts of many.

She leaves to mourn her passing her sons, Darrell and wife Kathleen of WaKeeney, and Donald and wife Rodena of Ft. Morgan, Colorado; three granddaughters, Nicole and husband T.J. Parafioriti, of Tampa, Florida, Karen and husband Aaron Braun, of Wamego, and Amy and Josh Melby of Yuma, Colorado; four great-grandchildren, Isaac and Levi Braun of Wamego, and Kayla and Kallan Melby of Yuma, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sisters, Ella Schneider, Olinda Schneider, and Cora Hladek; and half-sister, Rosa Stenzel. Florence will be missed by many friends and family whose lives she touched during her long and wonderful life.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, WaKeeney. Burial will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
