Fabian Zimmerman 84, Quinter died March 9, 2013, at Hays Medical Center. He was born May 20, 1928 south of Park at the family farm to Theodore and Rosalie (Heier) Zimmerman.
He married Opal Beougher on August 30, 1955, in Grinnell, KS, he attended Sunshine School southwest of Quinter until the 8th grade.
He was a grain inspector for the USDA office at Gove, helped to build the elevator at Quinter and was an avid farmer. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a Knights of Columbus member for over 50 years. He was also a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 2864 and American Legion Post #301.
He enjoyed bowling, watching K-State and Kansas basketball, and watching the kids in the summer time playing softball and baseball at the ball field. He also enjoyed playing cards when the family got together, having fun with the grandkids and great-grandkids.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Alan Zimmerman, Steven (Robin) Zimmerman, Cheney; five daughters, Connie (Ed) Albin, Quinter, Betty (Jerry) Pelzel, Salina, Brenda Ikenberry, St. Louis, MO, JoAnn (Duane) Williams, Topeka, and Lois (Greg) Mans, St. Louis, MO; 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; brother Edmund (Delores) Zimmerman; seven sisters, Kay Younger, Johanna Dreher, Sally Burgardt, Alberta (Bill) Knoll, Albina (Gene) Moore, Loretta (Bob) Waldman, and Rowena (Clyde) Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joseph Zimmerman and Dale Zimmerman; sisters Mary Racette, Emma Zimmerman, and Theresa Haffner.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park, KS with Father Don Zimmerman and Father James Thomas. Burial will be in the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, WaKeeney.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter. Vigil will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Quinter Ambulance Service, Quinter Recreation (baseball and softball) and Masses.
