IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eugenia Irene
Ikenberry
January 24, 1931 – October 5, 2023
Eugenia Irene Ikenberry, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on October 5, 2023, at the age of 92. She was born on January 24, 1931, in Rural Gove County, Kansas, to William Merle Roesch and Margaret Florence (Smith).
Eugenia graduated from Quinter High School in 1949 and went on to marry Merton Ikenberry on June 3, 1952, at the United Methodist Church in Quinter, Kansas. Together, they were blessed with three sons: Tracy, Lane, and Troy.
Eugenia was a dedicated farmwife who actively participated in farm work, including driving a silage truck when needed. She was known for her exceptional harvest meals, especially her coconut cream pies. Eugenia had a passion for caring for her flowers, yard, and garden, and even at the age of 91, she would still pick weeds from her flowers.
Music played a significant role in Eugenia's life. She sang in a quartet, the church choir, and a women's church group called the Brethren Bells, who performed for special occasions. She was an active member of the Quinter Community, participating in various services such as hospice, food distribution through Prairie Land Foods, and the church choir. Eugenia particularly enjoyed being a part of the Valhalla Club.
Eugenia was a talented quilt maker with an eye for colors. She created beautiful wall hangings, placemats, and quilts. She was actively involved in the Church of the Brethren, and her quilts were often auctioned off at the yearly Soup Supper and Auction.
Eugenia's Christian faith was of utmost importance to her. She studied the work of God and memorized many Bible verses to live by. She often shared these scriptures and words of encouragement with others, demonstrating her deep love for the Lord.
Eugenia is survived by her three sons: Tracy (Alice) Ikenberry of Richland, WA; Lane Ikenberry of New Orleans, LA; and Troy Ikenberry of Quinter. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Emily (Brian) Garrett of Salina and Myles (Carol) Ikenberry of Portland, OR; Lauren Ikenberry of Richland, WA; step-granddaughter Emily (Mark) Telander of Colorado Springs, CO; sister in-law, Karen Roesch and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Merton, parents William and Margaret Roesch, sisters Janice Schmitt and Marilyn Roesch, and brother Curtis Roesch
