Obituary

Emma "Jeanie" Jean Hazuka, 83, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024, at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Long Term Care in WaKeeney.

Born to Otto Leonard and Pearl "Ruth" (Kilpatrick) Zahn on May 7, 1940, in Ransom, Kansas, Jeanie's life was a testament to love and dedication. She attended school in WaKeeney and graduated from Trego Community High School in 1958. Jeanie fell in love with Raymond Hazuka while he was home on leave from the military. They were married on October 6, 1958, in Ellis, Kansas, and enjoyed 32 years of cherished married life together.

Jeanie's devotion extended beyond her family's home. As a skilled secretary, she contributed her talents to Dr. Hutcher, Dr. Oborny, and the Farm Business Service Agency. She was an Eagles Aerie #3774 member and had a keen eye for bargains, often found while perusing thrift stores and garage sales. Among her pastimes, Jeanie enjoyed a good game of bingo.

Left to honor her memory are her daughters, Mary (Ronnie) Seltmann of Liberty, MO, Dorothy (Troy) Leiker of WaKeeney, KS; son, Jim (Anita) Hazuka of Hoisington, KS; and her grandchildren, Tyler Seltmann, Jessica (Ryan) Werth, Stephanie (James) Wright, Elizabeth (Michael) McCurdy, and Raymond James Nathan (Jennifer) Hazuka; 18 great-grandchildren; and brother, Raymond Zahn of WaKeeney, KS.

Jeanie was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hazuka; parents, Otto and Pearl Zahn; brothers, Leonard Zahn and Frederick Zahn; sisters Bessie Mae King and Louise Strecker; and granddaughters, Morgan Jean Harley and Merlynna Rae Harley.

A funeral service to celebrate Jeanie's life will be held on Wednesday, March 27, at 10:30 a.m. CST at the Church of God in WaKeeney, Kansas. Prior to the service, a visitation will be held from 9:30–10:30 a.m. CST. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at the WaKeeney City Cemetery.

The family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Trego County-Lemke Memorial Long Term Care. Contributions can be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home at 336 North 12th Street, WaKeeney, KS, 67672.

Jeanie's legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
