Elsie Vsetecka was born November 8, 1921 in LaCrosse, Kansas to Joseph F. and Rose (Krotz) Oborny. She passed away Thursday, December 24, 2009 in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the age of 88.


On January 8, 1945, Elsie was united in marriage to Joseph A. Vsetecka in Timken, Kansas. Elsie and Joseph were blessed with two children, Donald and Lana. Elsie and Joe lived in Great Bend, Kansas until 1954, when they moved to WaKeeney, Kansas where they lived until March 2007 when they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to live near their two children, Don and Lana.

Elsie enjoyed her family and her dancing. Elsie and Joe particularly loved polka dancing. They were long time active members of the Sunflower Polka Club of western Kansas.


Elsie was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Altar Society at the church.


Survivors include her husband, Joseph of Colorado Springs, CO; a son, Don Vsetecka and companion Rochelle Stasi and her four daughters of Green Mountain Falls, CO; daughter, Lana Schymos and husband John, and their twin boys, Kyle and Will of Colorado Springs, CO; a grandson, Kirk Vsetecka and wife Tracy and family; a granddaughter, Kristen Baldwin and husband Matthew and family; five great grandchildren; and sister, Mary Gerstenkorn of Great Bend, KS


Preceding her in death was her two sisters, Helen Vsetecka and Rose Suchy.
Services were held Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney with Father Donald F. Pfannenstiel officiating. Burial was in the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery at WaKeeney.
