Elsie Veatch Spangler, age 99, of Wakeeney KS, died Aug. 31, 2012.

Elsie was born Nov. 23, 1912 in Lost Springs KS. She was the daughter of August and Clara (Hartke) Engel. She was baptized Elsa Anna Emma Engel, Dec. 1912, and confirmed in 1926 at St. John's Lutheran in Lincolnville KS.


Elsie married Harold Veatch March 18, 1939. He preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 1948. After raising four children, she married Gaylord Spangler, June 11, 1967. He preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 1987.
Elsie was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters, one grandchild, Cliff Veatch, and one great-grandchild, Ryan Beavers.
Elsie is survived by her sons, Steve Veatch of Cedar Falls IA; Chuck Veatch and wife, Fran of Manhattan KS; daughters Leatha and husband, Charlie Beavers of Olathe; Cindy and husband, Gale Scanlon of Wakeeney; Joan (Spangler) Daniels and husband Ray of Kansas City KS; and Janet (Spangler) Rees and husband Jeffrey of West Liberty IA. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at St. John KS cemetery at 11:00 AM on Wed, Sept. 5, 2012. Family hosted memorial service will be the following day at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 255 S. 7th, Salina KS, 11:00 AM on Sept. 6, 2012.
