WaKeeney resident, Ellamae G. Moheng, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, WaKeeney. She was 91 years of age.
She was born Ellamae G. Mensing, on December 18, 1921, the daughter of Ernest and Meta (Schwanbeck) Mensing, in WaKeeney, Kansas. Ellamae graduated from Sherman High School in Goodland. She was very proud to have served her country from 1943 to 1946 in the Women's Army Corp during World War II. She was stationed at the 2nd Army Headquarters, Infantry School, at Ft. Benning, Georgia. She attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. On April 27, 1947, she was united in marriage to Clarence F. Moheng, in Goodland, Kansas. They were married 37 years until Clarence's death on March 14, 1985. Ellamae was a loving caregiver and homemaker, having cared for her extended and immediate family. She was also a member of the Sarah Circle at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of WaKeeney. She loved bowling and served as the District Director of both the Kansas Women's Bowling Association and the Kansas Junior Bowling Association. She was oftentimes found spending time outdoors fishing or maintaining her picture perfect lawn and flower gardens.
Ellamae is survived by her son Mitchell C. Moheng of Gainesville, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother Norbert Mensing; three sisters Margaret Malinowsky, Nora Spitsnaugle, and Barbara Dufield.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of WaKeeney with Pastor Randy Gibbs as officiant. Burial will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery with military honors provided by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 26, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.
