Obituary

Elizabeth Waldman was born June 29, 1922 in rural Trego County, Kansas (Collyer) to the late Andrew and Eva (Romme) Scheck. She passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011 in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney at the age of 88.

As a child, she attended grade school in Collyer taught by the Sisters of St. Joseph. She also attended two years of high school in Collyer, quitting after her sophomore year to help at home. Many times she rode to school in a horse-drawn wagon, sometimes holding a hot baked potato in her hands for warmth.


On April 22, 1954, Elizabeth was united in marriage to Joseph Thomas Waldman at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Collyer, Kansas. To this union, three children were born. Joe passed away September 6, 1997.

Elizabeth was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Park. She was an avid cook and enjoyed having family dinners. She especially enjoyed testing new recipes on her sons.


Survivors include daughter, JoEva Strange; sons, Joe Waldman and Jerry Waldman and wife, Cyndi; grandchildren, Andrew Strange, Sara Stevens and husband, Travis, Matthew Waldman and wife, Kate, Katie Waldman and fiancé, Kyle Crossland, Jacob Waldman, Hannah Waldman; great-granddaughter, Laramie Stevens; and many nieces and nephews.


Preceding her in death were her parents, Andrew and Eva; her husband, Joe; twin infants; brothers, Victor and Wendolin; sisters, Anna Brungardt, Isabelle Stefan, Katherine Scheck, Sophie Steinle, infant Eva Scheck, and Leona Tuttle.

Visitation will be 5-7 PM Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park with Vigil service at 7 PM.

Services for Elizabeth will be 10:30 AM Thursday, January 20, 2011 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park. Interment is in the church cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to masses or the TCLMH Endowment for the Physical Therapy Dept. and can be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 S Main, Quinter, KS 67752.
