Eleanor "Edna" (Goetz) Heier, Colby, formerly of Grainfield was born on a farm north of Park, KS on May 5, 1934, the daughter of William and Irma (Gallagher) Goetz. She passed away Tuesday September 1, 2015 at Citizens Medical Center in Colby at the age of 81.
As a child, she attended grade school in the District 59 Country School in Sheridan County. She then attended Park High School, graduating in 1952. On October 7, 1952, Edna was united in marriage to Elmer J. Heier in Park, KS. Together, they farmed in Sheridan and Gove Counties.
Edna was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church and Christian Mothers, both in Grainfield.
Her hobbies included, crafts, reading newspapers and magazines, collecting post cards and playing bingo. Edna's Catholic faith was very important to her and she prayed the Rosary weekly. She was a wonderful cook and had good meals prepared for her family, which always included dessert. She especially enjoyed making "the strawberry stuff", a frozen strawberry dessert for her grandchildren. Along with a busy schedule of keeping after the children, Edna made time to be a CCD Coordinator and teacher. Her greatest joy were her 10 children, 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Edna's full time job was being "Mom", and her to-do list was always ongoing.
Survivors include six sons: Ken, Wichita, Larry and wife, Mary, Colby, Dean of Austin, TX, John of Plano, TX, Alan and wife, Mary of Eudora, Paul of Frisco, TX: Four daughters, Janelle Heier of Wichita, Judy Heier-Hammond of Gaithersburg, MD, Cheryl Helms and husband James, Bentonville, AR, Emma Heier of Wichita: fifteen grandchildren, Tammy Carrell and husband, Patrick, Keith Heier and wife, Niki, Ryan Heier, Erin Bailey, Sarah Heier, Peter Heier, Regina Chriestenson and husband Trent, Joseph Heier, Megan Hammond, Nicole Hammond, Brad Hammond, Allyson Heier, Sheila Helms, Kaitlyn Heier, Hunter Heier; eight great-grandchildren Rebecca Heier, Shawn Carrell, Bellis Heier, Elizabeth Heier, Erica Bailey, Clayton Bailey, Juliann Bailey, Taylor Chriestenson; one brother Jerome Goetz and wife Alice of Park.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Elmer J. Heier and daughter-in-law Carol Heier.
Edna's love will always echo within our thoughts, our words and our hearts.
Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. Friday Sept 4th at Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter. Vigil Service will follow at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Park. Burial at Grainfield Cemetery.
