Edward M. Ziegler was born November 2, 1920, in Collyer, KS, to the late Vincent and Elizabeth (Weisbeck) Ziegler. He passed away, Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney at the age of 91.


As a child he attended schools in Collyer and graduated from Collyer High School with the class of 1939. He served his country as a Pilot and Officer in the United States Navy during WWII.

On June 21, 1948, Eddie was united in marriage to Helen R. Schemm in Collyer, KS. Together they farmed in the Collyer area until retiring in 2000. Eddie was one of the first farmers in the area to receive a conservation award for his farming practices and use of terraces on his cropland.


Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Helen, of WaKeeney; sons, Kenneth Ziegler and wife, Jean, of Ames, IA, Howard Ziegler and wife, Laura, of Hays; a daughter Gwen Billings and husband, Larry, of Lawrence; six grandchildren, Susan Thompson, Bryce Billings, Kyle Billings, Dave Ziegler, Joe Ziegler, Julia Carey; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Margaret Roberts, Mary Frances Swinson, and Eleanor Krijicek.


Seven brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.

Visitation for Edward will be 9:00 A.M. until time of funeral services at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, February 27, 2012 in Schmitt Funeral Home at WaKeeney, KS.
