Obituary

Lifelong Park resident, Edna Cooksey, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Gove County Medical Center – Long Term Care, in Quinter. She was 88 years of age. Edna was born August 14, 1926, in Park, to Alex and Matilda (Billinger) Kraft. She attended Park schools and went on to attend Marymount College.

On June 9, 1947, Edna Kraft was united in marriage to Robert E. Cooksey, in Park. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage together, until Robert's death on December 15, 1999. Edna was a loving wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society and Church. Edna enjoyed dancing and was known for her wonderful talent in the kitchen, cooking for family gatherings and events. She cherished time spent with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Edna is survived by 3 sons, Randy and wife Peggy of Oakley, John and wife Sharon of Grandview, Texas, and Richard and wife Stephanie of Wichita; 4 daughters, Karen and husband Tom Scott of Park, Cheryl and husband Daryl Remington of Gove, Leann and husband Brent Evans of Gove, and Mary and husband Jim Gormley of Grainfield; a daughter-in-law, Lela Cooksey; 27 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters Irene Depperschmidt of Salina and Viola Burgardt of Wichita. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Joann Dinkel; 2 sons Kenny and Jim; and a grandson, Matthew.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter. A parish vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., also at the funeral home.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, memorial contributions are suggested to Gove County Ambulance Service or Jay Johnson Library. Checks made to those organizations may be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 South Main, Quinter, KS 67752.
