Obituary

Dotty, age 92, was born at home in Page City, Kansas, on October 30, 1931. She grew up in a family with a strong work ethic. She started her first job at the age of 6 years helping her father who was custodian and cook at the school in Page City. Dotty was an exceptional athlete. All four years of high school she played volleyball for the Page City Bulldogs, graduating in 1949. On May 25, 1950, Dotty Marie Taylor married Merle Dean Hargitt. Together they enjoyed more than 71 years of marriage. Early in the afternoon of May 25, 2024, Dotty made the transition from her earthly home to her heavenly home on what would have been their 74th wedding anniversary—perhaps to be reunited with Merle in the place Jesus promised and prepared for her.

Dotty's priority was to be a wife, a mother, and a homemaker. She took great pride in each of her six children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and step-grands. She was a faithful Christian and a tireless worker. She served wherever she was asked or needed—in the kitchen, leading the choir, teaching children's Sunday School, sponsoring the youth group, and summer youth mission trips. Together with Merle, she served as custodian of the Quinter Methodist Church for 54 years. She also served and cared for many different individuals and families in their time of need or final days. Her door and her table were always open.

Dotty is survived by her daughters, Maryle Albin (Tom), of Hermitage, TN, and Mona Stewart (Tom), of Quinter, KS; sons, Randall Hargitt (Rita), of Quinter, KS, Wendall Hargitt (Gina), of Quinter, KS, and Neil Hargitt (JoEva), of Arnold, KS; daughter-in-law, Nadine Hargitt (Roy), of Quinter; and 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 9 step-grand and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sister, Mary Ann McConnell, of Omaha, NE; brother, Clarence Ray "Tate" Taylor (LeMer), of Littleton, CO; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Moos (Charlie), of Grinnell KS, and Joan McCormick, of Lyons, KS; and longtime friend and caregiver of over two years, Judy Hopson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Minna Taylor; infant brother, Vordon Roy Taylor; husband, Merle Dean Hargitt; son, Roy Dean Hargitt; and numerous beloved in-laws. Dotty will be dearly missed by family and friends.

The Celebration of Life service for Dotty will be held Saturday, July 20th, at 10:30 AM at the Quinter Methodist Church, followed by a lunch in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Quinter Methodist Church Women, 218 W. 4th St., Quinter, KS 67752; or the Quinter Senior Center, P.O. Box 176, Quinter, KS 67752. Condolences may be offered in Dotty's online guestbook at www.schmittfuneral.com.
