Doris Louise Manhart was born October 4, 1928, in Sheridan County, KS, to the late John and Mary (Ostmeyer) Bixenman. She passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at her home in Grainfield, KS, at the age of 83.
She attended a country school in Sheridan County.
On April 7, 1948, she married Robert J. Manhart in Angelus, KS. Together, they farmed and raised cattle in Gove and Sheridan counties. Robert passed away August 12, 2006.
Doris was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, St. Agnes Ladies, the American Legion George M. Scott Post #301, Auxiliary, all in Grainfield, and the Wheatland VFW Post #2864 Auxilary in Grinnell.
Her hobbies included, quilting, sewing, gardening, cooking, and baking. She was especially noted for her cinnamon rolls and chocolate mint cookies.
Those left to mourn her passing are three sons, Larry and wife, Janice, of Grainfield, Don and wife, Phyllis of LaCrosse, Dale and wife, Charlotte, of Grainfield; two daughters, Alice Jones and husband, Ken, of Frankfort, KS, Jean Wisecup and husband, Bob, of Independence, MO; twenty-four Grandchildren; thirty-three Great-Grandchildren; two brothers, Fred and Bill Bixenman, both of Grinnell; and a sister, Stella Kranawitter of Hoxie.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joe Bixenman.
Visitation is 6-7 PM, Friday, July 13, 2012 in St. Agnes Education Center at Grainfield, KS with Vigil Service at 7 PM. Services will be 10;00 AM Saturday, July 14, 2012 in St. Agnes Catholic Church with Father James Thomas officiating. Interment is in Grainfield Cemetery.
