IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donna Lee
Hull
October 30, 1931 – August 15, 2019
Donna Lee Hull, age 87, of Hill City, Kansas, passed away on August 15, 2019, under the kind care of Dawson Place. She was born in Wamego, Kansas, on October 30, 1931. She was one of eight children, born in the middle, with three brothers and four sisters.
Donna was united in marriage to Edwin Lee Hull on August 13,1949, after a three week courtship. They were married for 70 years. In addition to working for many years on the family farm, she worked as a waitress at the original Buck's Grill (where she met Edwin), as a retail associate at several locations in Hill City—her favorite being Den's Men's Clothing—and as an aide at Dawson Place. She also served as a Girl Scout leader, softball coach, the volunteer director of the local Senior Center, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed traveling, square dancing, water aerobics at Ft. Hays State University with her crew of ladies, and tried white water river rafting at 80 years of age.
Donna is survived by her husband, Edwin of Hill City; her favorite (and only) daughter, Diane Hull, and her spouse, David Backstrom of Deerfield, New Hampshire; two brothers (Albert Sester & Bill Schweitzer) and three sisters (Virginia Craig, Jane McGarity, and Sue Schweitzer), all of the Topeka, Kansas area, in addition to other family and friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her brother (Gene of Homer City, Pennsylvania), her sisters (Ike of Waterloo, Iowa, and Polly of Meridan, Kansas), and several beloved Yorkshire Terriers.
Private family services will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Graham County Public Library, which afforded her many, many hours of enjoyment. Donations to the library may be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 North 12th Street, WaKeeney, KS 67672.
