Obituary

Don McWilliams, age 91, of Quinter, passed away Friday, November 23, 2012 at Gove County Medical Center, Long Term Care.

Donald was born, the youngest of seven children, the son of Nicholas Ford and Ola Top (Halferty) McWilliams. After attending grade school in a one room school house he graduated from Hoxie High School. His college studies at Kansas State University were interrupted after two years by his service to our country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He served in England and France in the weather division. This took him away from home for nearly three years, at which time he was honorably discharged in December 1945. Don was united in marriage to Oneita Chestnut on December 18, 1945. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage together. Oneita passed away on April 10, 2012. Don served as County Extension Agent for over 25 years in Logan, Rawlins, and Wallace County. He was a long time member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and was also active in the Gideons for many years. He was also a member of Rotary, the Quinter Community Service Club, the Tumbleweed Chorus – BHS. To say Don was an avid K-State fan would be an understatement. He also enjoyed fishing, playing scrabble and singing.
