WaKeeney resident, Della Jean Ohlemeier, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney. She was 89 years of age. She was born April 14, 1924, on the family farm near Macksville, to Herman W. and Margaret E. (Howell) Cramer.
Della was a graduate of LaCrosse High School. She earned her teaching degree at Fort Hays State University, and proudly served our country in the United States Navy Waves from 1944 to 1946. On November 10, 1951, Della was united in marriage to Merlin Ohlemeier in LaCrosse. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage together until Merlin's death on November 24, 2012. She and her husband enjoyed road trips in their R.V., having been to most of the continental United States. Della was a talented piano player. She enjoyed swimming, water sports, and anything that brought her and her family together. She was a teacher, having worked at Trego County and Ransom Schools.
Survivors include her two sons, Jerry and wife Teresa of Lawrence, and Jay and wife Maree of Hays; four grandchildren, Jody Riddle of Lawrence, Lindsay Taylor of Omaha, Nebraska, Daniel Ohlemeier of Lawrence, and Kristen Ohlemeier of Seattle, Washington; and four great-grandchildren, Trevor and Tiffaney Riddle of Lawrence, and Kinley and Kasen Taylor of Omaha, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, infant Merlin Scott Ohlemeier, and Joel Ohlemeier; and three brothers, Herman, Morris, and Alexander Cramer.
Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Ogallah Christian Church. A reception will follow the service at the church. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in WaKeeney.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Ogallah Christian Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
