Obituary

Delbert Emmert Tuttle passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 at Gove County Long Term Care Facility in Quinter, after sharing time with his family in his final hours.  He was born June 30, 1932 in Quinter to Ralph M. and Ada (Sprenkel) Tuttle.  Delbert was the youngest of five children.  He was 83 years old.

Delbert attended Quinter Public Schools.  He met Martha (Marty) Carlson and they were married January 25, 1951 in Raton, New Mexico.  To this union four children were born: Dennis (Br. Jeremiah, OSB), Scott, Melissa and Jay Sheldon.  Delbert and Marty lived their entire married life in Quinter, Kansas.  Marty passed away July 3, 2013.

Delbert was a member of the Quinter Church of the Brethren, Elks Club and American Contractors Association.  He worked with his dad and brothers at the beginning of his career with the family business, Ralph M. Tuttle & Sons in Quinter. He continued to work as a grading contractor for many years. Later he worked for Sheridan and Gove Counties as a blade operator until his retirement.

Delbert and Marty were married for 62 years.  During this time, they enjoyed spontaneous family trips, camping, and extended vacations as a couple. They especially enjoyed live Country Music shows or simply watching television together.  The highlight of their day was their afternoon trips to the Dairy Queen or convenience store meeting new people or visiting with friends.  They loved spending time with friends and neighbors but most of all, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Delbert was generous and giving, had an infectious smile and laugh, and wanted to see everyone happy.  This also included playfully teasing his wife, Marty.

He is survived by his children, Dennis Tuttle (Br. Jeremiah, OSB), Conception, MO, Scott Tuttle and wife Tina, Hays, Melissa Riegel, Hays, and Jay Sheldon Tuttle, Kansas City, Missouri; sister, Oneita Press, Quinter; sisters-in-law, Roma Tuttle, Brigantine, New Jersey and Janice Peterson, Las Cruces, New Mexico; grandchildren, Erica Summers and husband Ben, Hays, Justin Tuttle and wife Yoshika, Aliso Viejo, California, Austin Tuttle, Lakewood, Colorado, Jason Riegel and wife Aimee, Hays, Abra Riegel, Claflin, Bryce Riegel, Great Bend; great-grandchildren, Rylie Rowland, Emerie and Laynie Summers, Jonah and Jude Riegel, Hays, Nathan and Jordan Tuttle, Aliso Viejo, California; and many nieces, nephews and friends.  Delbert was preceded in death by his wife Marty; his parents; and brothers, Elvin, Charles and Glen Tuttle.
