Delbert A. Turner was born in rural Trego County, KS, on January 5, 1937, to Richard and Hazel (Bachstrom) Turner. He passed away Saturday, December 12, 2009, at his home in WaKeeney at the age of 72.
As a child, he attended Ness County schools, and attended Vo-Tech school in Colorado. He served in the United States Army 1956 to 1958 and from 1959 until 1962.
He married Fern Schuckman and later divorced.
On August 23, 1986, Delbert married Sharon Hickman in Anchorage, AK. She survives of the home.
Delbert worked for the Department of Transportation in Anchorage, AK. He was an avid gardener. Other hobbies included hunting and fishing.
Other survivors include a son, Patrick Turner and wife, Karen, Red Bluff, CA; three daughters, Sharlene Edwards and husband, Garry, Theresa Peery and husband, Rob, all of Anchorage, AK, Rebecca Kemp and husband, Jerry, McKinney, TX; three stepsons, John Mason and wife, Lora, Virgin Islands, Jeffrey Mason and wife, Karen, Springtown, TX, James Mason, Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Delores Hendrix of WaKeeney.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Ronald Turner; and a sister, Eva Joan Turner.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date in the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery at WaKeeney, KS.
