Lloyd Delbert Garrett was born January 7, 1944 to Lloyd & Imo Jean (Goble) Garrett in Colby, KS. His mother later married Joe Hockersmith in 1958. Delbert passed away Sunday, October 25, 2009, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS at the age of 65. Delbert was an independent insurance agent & owner of Dick's Insurance Agency in Park, KS.
As a young man Delbert attended local schools & graduated from Oakley High School with the class of 1963. He attended Fort Hays State University.
On December 27, 1965 he married Donna Waldman at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park. The first ten years of their marriage was spent in Hays before returning home to take over the family insurance agency.
Delbert and Donna were involved in Marriage Encounter as a Team Couple for many years. Delbert was very involved in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Parish activities & leadership.
Delbert's passion was his wife, children & grandchildren. He also enjoyed that quiet day on the golf course.
Survivors include his wife, Donna of Park; son, Brian Garrett & wife Sonya of Hays; daughter, Kim Schoenfeld & husband Greg of Wichita; son, Jeremy Garrett & wife Trisha of Topeka; daughter, Erin Garrett of Overland Park; six grandchildren, Kendahl & Abby Garrett, Emily, Payton, Paul, & Kory Schoenfeld; brothers, Donnie Hockersmith & wife Eileen of Oklahoma City, OK & Oura Garrett & wife Micky of Oakley; three sisters, Connie Maier & husband Leroy, Janice Huelsman & husband Robert, & Charla Morris & husband Larry all of Oakley; two sister-in-laws, Lynn Hockersmith of Cameron, MO and Sharon Hockersmith of Wichita; mother-in-law, Jane Schmidtberger & husband Vic of Grainfield;
Preceding him in death was his mother Imo Jean Hockersmith; fathers, Joe Hockersmith and Lloyd Garrett; two brothers, Jerry Hockersmith and Harvey Hockersmith.
Services for Delbert were held Wednesday, October 28, 2009 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Park with Father James Thomas officiating. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
