Obituary

Grainfield resident, Debra L. (Carter) Brown, passed away, Saturday, January 4, 2014 at her home. She was 56 years of age. She was born February 17, 1957 in Wichita, to Floyd Earl and Mary Edding (Ward) Carter.

Debra was a graduate of Campus High School in Haysville. She went on to earn her associates degree in secretarial science. On May 25, 1991, she married Gerry W. Brown in Colby. They enjoyed 22 years of marriage together. She was a co-owner (with her husband) of B & B Oil Tools in Grainfield. Debra was a kind-hearted person. She always looked forward to Spring and Summer as she was known for keeping a picture perfect lawn. Debra cherished time spent with family and loved her dogs. She will be dearly missed by many.

Survivors include her husband, Gerry, of the family home; her mother, Mary Carter, of Atwood; a son, Chad D. Hanna and wife Melissa of Grainfield; a step-son Jarrod Brown of Boulder, Colorado; a step-daughter Heather and husband Gregory Renas of Aurora, Colorado; two brothers Danny Carter of Grainfield and David Carter of Atwood; four grandchildren Brielle Hanna, and Noah, Isaac, and Jonah Renas; a brother-in-law Tommy Brown of Conroe, Texas; her mother-in-law Lillie Brown of Attica; and a special aunt JoAnn Carter of Mayflower, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd; a son Shawn Spencer; and her father-in-law Gene Brown.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Schmitt Funeral Home of Quinter.

Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Debra Brown Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 South Main, Quinter, KS 67752.
