Obituary

David Niesley Hutchison was born August 2, 1923, in WaKeeney, KS, to the late Curtis and Mildred Hutchison. He passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016, at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus at the age of 92.

As a child, he attended schools in WaKeeney and graduated from Trego Community High School. He graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point, and later furthered his education at the University of Illinois. He served his country proudly and honorably in the US Army for 30 years overseas in Japan, Korea, Turkey, and Vietnam; and throughout the United States. After his military retirement he was an Assistant Vice President for Merrill Lynch in Denver, CO, for 13 years.

He was united in marriage to Jean Corwin in San Francisco, CA, on July 29, 1947.

He was a Professional Engineer; and a member of the Society of American Military Engineers, the First Presbyterian Church in WaKeeney, KS, and Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church, Englewood, CO.

In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling to Hawaii, and watching and attending sporting events. More than anything he enjoyed his family and spending time with them. The example he set as a good, kind, loving, honest, and hardworking man inspired many people, and left a legacy his family will cherish forever.

Those left to mourn his passing are his sons, Scott Hutchison (Merci), Colorado Springs, CO; Steve Hutchison (Toni), Cottage Grove, OR; and daughters, Sara McPhee, Castle Rock, CO; and Mary Ann Haug (Dan), Aurora, CO; plus grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

His parents; wife Jean; brothers, Jim and Glen Hutchison; and a son-in-law, Mike McPhee, preceded him in death.

Burial will take place prior a memorial service. The burial will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 16, 2016 at WaKeeney City Cemetery. The memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, WaKeeney.
