Obituary

Darrell James 'Jim' Pfannenstiel was born February 25, 1939, in Munjor, KS, to the late Connie and Marcella (Doerfler) Pfannenstiel. He passed away, Wednesday, June 20, 2012, in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney, KS at the age of 73.


As a child, he attended Munjor School and graduated from St. Joe's Military Academy in Hays, with the class of 1957.


On April 12, 1958, Jim was united in marriage to Firma Kreutzer in Hays, KS. They moved to WaKeeney in 1965. Jim worked as a meat cutter for Garrett's IGA, Boogaarts, and Mai's Locker, a welder for Malsom Terracing, and rough necked for the oilfields and drove a water truck and worked maintenance for McDonald's until he retired.


Jim was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3774, both in WaKeeney. During his spare time, Jim loved to fish. In earlier years, he played baseball and coached his children's games. As a meat cutter, he was noted for his recipe of raw seasoned hamburger. Whenever time allowed, he did wood working and rebuilt many homes.


Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Firma; a son, Calvin and wife, Amanda; a daughter, Brenda Schoenberger and husband, Kevin, all of WaKeeney; son-in-law, Tom Schneider of WaKeeney; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis Pfannenstiel of Hays, Duane 'Whitey' Pfannenstiel of Topeka; and two sisters, Norma Jean Basgall of Olathe, and Gloria Koirth of Munjor.


He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Schneider; a daughter-in-law, Cindi (Morales) Pfannenstiel; and two brothers, Norman and Stanley Pfannenstiel.

Visitation for Jim is 5-7 PM Thursday, June 21. 2012 at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney with a Vigil Service at 7 PM.

Services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, June 22, 2012 in Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Don Pfannenstiel officiating. Interment is in the church cemetery.
