Darlene Katherine Schneider was born January 26, 1933 in Trego County to Emanuel and Isabell (Margheim) Stieben.  She passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014 at her home.  She was 81 years of age.

On August 5, 1955, Darlene married Floyd Schneider in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of WaKeeney, and moved into the country where she became a homemaker.  She and her husband settled permanently on a farm near Cedar Bluff.  She was a talented piano and guitar player, and loved to sing.  She helped her husband on their farm, and enjoyed listening to country music.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially the four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Darlene loved the prairie and the freedom of open space that their farm provided; the beauty of a tiny wildflower, numerous pets, and all the simple pleasures in life.  Above all, she was a kind and gentle soul.

Survivors include her husband, Floyd, of the family home; two daughters, Sherry and husband Mike Linenberger, and Lori and husband Mike Gottschalk, both of hays; four grandchildren, Todd Linenberger of Hays, Tara Wasinger of Wichita, Rachel Gottschalk of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Cole Gottschalk of Hays; two great-grandchildren, Jace and Katie Linenberger of Hays.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Darlene will be lovingly remembered by family and friends.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 17, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of WaKeeney with Pastor Randy Gibbs officiating.  Burial will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 a.m. to service time at the church.
