Obituary

Danny Dunn, age 68, of WaKeeney, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012 at his home. He was born July 6, 1944 in Wichita. His parents were "Slick" Schwien and Lois Neva McKinzie.

Danny was a graduate of Trego Community High School. He was united in marriage to Bea Schuster on May 30, 1966 in WaKeeney. To say Danny was a hard worker would be an understatement. He could do just about anything. His first job started when he was around 10 years old on the Sunbeam bread truck. As he grew up, he learned the brick laying trade and completed many jobs around the area. A few of the ventures Danny was involved in were operating the bowling alley in WaKeeney, running the Skelly station, and owning the Coachman Club. For many years, and up until his death, Danny and his family owned and operated Dan's Sanitation, Inc. He was known around the area as the flag man for stock car races, having flagged for years in WaKeeney, Stockton, and Goodland. Danny was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Eagle's Lodge #3774, and was a Trego County fair board member for several years. Spending time with family was among one of Danny's favorite things to do. His son, Darren, was also his best friend. They enjoyed working together and doing many other things like hunting, fishing, and bowling.

Danny will be dearly missed by many friends and family, including his wife, Bea of the family home, a son Darren and wife Sara of WaKeeney, Kansas; three grandchildren Kylie, Kacie and Dillon Dunn; a brother Spencer Schwien of Evergreen, Colorado; two sisters Bonnie and husband Rudy Deines of Ozawkie, Kansas and Tami and husband Greg Zielke of Omaha, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Donald Pfannenstiel as Celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. with a parish vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Christ the King Cemetery fund, Christ the King Building Fund, or Phillipsburg Hospice and may be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 North 12th Street, WaKeeney, KS 67672.
