Daniel Paul Xavier Ghumm was born September 8, 1973, in Wichita, Kansas, to Luverne and Myrna Veronica (Mai) Ghumm. He passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011, in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, Kansas, at the age of 37.

He graduated from Trego Community High School with the class of 1992. During his younger high school years he worked for M.C.M. Manufacturing in WaKeeney. Daniel worked for 18 years as a department manager for Kmart.

On June 20, 2009, Daniel was united in marriage to Leesa Hansen in Kansas City, Kansas.

Daniel was amazing at remembering everything, was interested in everyone and everything around him and loved making people laugh. He was thoughtful and always had everyone's best interest at heart. He played sports and enjoyed frisbie, basketball and football. He had great passion for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Royals, watching or going to the games. At any given time Daniel would have a football in the trunk of the car ready to play with anyone who wanted.


Survivors include his wife, Leesa, of the home in WaKeeney; three sons Matthew, Jacob, Christopher, all of the home; his parents, Luverne Ghumm of WaKeeney; mother, Myrna Veronica Mai & Step Father Paul Schieferecke of Independence, KS; one brother Michael Ghumm and wife Karla of WaKeeney; and sister Tabitha Wynn and husband Thomas of Ogallah.

Preceding him in death was an infant brother Gabriel Ghumm; and his grandparents, Emanuel and Martha Mai, and Bill and Rose Ghumm.

Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Monday, August 1, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis with Father Richard Daise officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m with a vigil at 7:00 p.m.
