Cora V. Hladek was born June 9, 1922, in Russell, KS, to the late John George and Kathyrn (Eichman) Michaelis. She passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011, in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital at WaKeeney, KS at the age of 89.
She graduated from Trego Community High School and received a degree from a Business College in Salina, KS. Cora worked in the Paul W. Applegate Law Firm from 1942 until 1947.
On December 21, 1945, Cora was united in marriage to Glenn R. Hladek in the Presbyterian Church at WaKeeney. In 1953, Cora and Glenn purchased the Y-Drive In Movie Theater and were also co-owner and operators of the Kelly Theater in downtown WaKeeney. In their spare time, they loved to travel and camp with their family. Their travels over several years covered the entire United States and Canada. Some of the best years of their life were in Yuma, AZ in their retirement years with the many friends they made. In younger years, the couple also enjoyed dancing. Glenn passed away January 7, 2010.
From 1971, Cora was the Clerk of the District Court for Trego County until her retirement in April of 1982.
Cora was a member of the Randall Reid VFW Post #3449 Auxiliary and the Red Hat Ladies. For many years, she was a girl scout leader and braved many travel tours with the young scouts, some as far away as Washington D.C.
Those left to mourn her passing are her sons, Glenn A. Hladek and Jeanne Twohig, of Missoula, MT, Larry D. Hladek and wife, Irma, of Parkville, MO; a sister, Florence Hladek of WaKeeney; six grandchildren, Tricia Hladek, Alicia Smith and husband, Tyler, BriAnna Cosner and husband, Dennis, Jeff McEntarger and wife, Erin, Jeremey McEntarfer and wife, Faira, Dustin McEntarfer and wife, Sally; six great-grandchildren, Keegan Yates, and Trevyn Cosner, Dylan and Drew McEntarfer, and Lincoln and Leah Janae McEntarfer.
A daughter, Janet McEntarfer; and three sisters, Rosa Stenzel, Ella Schneider, and Olinda Schneider, also preceded her in death.
Memorial services for Cora will be 2:30 PM Friday, September 16, 2011 in Schmitt Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Lofton officiating. Inurnment is in the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery .
