Obituary

Charles Austin Mann was born into the family of Joseph Lynn and Ruth (Feiler) Mann on June 11, 1929. Family lore tells that he was their only child who was born in a hospital since it was 'haying season', and no one had time to care for a mother and infant at home. Austin grew to love the farm and never left the place he called 'home' until his Heavenly Father called him to a better 'home', on October 25, 2015.

Austin became a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church at about age 12. He served on the church Board of Deacons for more than 50 years and remained committed to his vows of church membership.

He attended the Quinter Public Schools from 1-12 grades. It was during these years that he met his fellow classmate, Dorothy Bollinger. They were married at her parents' home on April 17, 1948. Their married life has been spent in this community, where their best crops were kids, grain, and cattle.

In addition to serving on the church board, he served on the Board of USD 293 for about 10 years and was also on the organizing board of the Jay Johnson Public Library.

Austin delighted in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was greatly blessed to have been able to live 'next door' to his three grandchildren and be part of their lives.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Steve Schwab of Chico, California; son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Roetta of Quinter; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Shane and Mary Jo, Barrett and Carson Mann of Quinter, Tara Jo Mann of Grapevine, Texas, Tracey and Audrey Mann, Quincy, Austin, and Whitney of Salina; one sister, Mary Smith of Denver, Colorado; one brother, Bob Mann of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother-in-law, Bob Bales of Fair Oaks, California; sister-in-law, Jeanne Mann of Quinter; sister and brother-in-law, Sam and Norma Chestnut of Quinter; and numerous nieces and nephews. His infant daughter, Dianna Sue, his parents, Joe and Ruth, brother Mat and sister, Jewell have predeceased him.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Quinter Church of the Brethren. Pastors Jay Strunk, Keith Funk, and Stan Copeland will officiate. Private family inurnment will take place at Baker Township Cemetery, Quinter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Gove County Endowment (for completion of the new Quinter airport), Gove County Medical Center Auxiliary (for Stand Alone wheelchair frame for LTCF), or the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Quinter. Checks made to the organization may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 South Main, Quinter, KS 67752.
