IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charlene G.
Barber
March 14, 1935 – May 19, 2020
Charlene Genelle Barber (Char), born March 14, 1935 and formerly of Hays and Wakeeney, Kansas, passed away in Springfield, Missouri, on May 19, 2020, at 85 years of age.
Charlene was born in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. She graduated from Wilmore High School and continued on at Wichita Business School for one year. Charlene was united in marriage to Earl Barber on July 10, 1954. They were married for 65 years. She worked as a school secretary in WaKeeney and finished her career as a housing director in Hays. She enjoyed fishing with Earl and spending time with her family. She loved everyone deeply, had a strong faith, and enjoyed attending the Ogallah Christian Church.
Char is survived by her husband Earl, three sons Mark (Bernice) of Lawrence, KS, Jim of Springfield, MO, and David (Annette) of Hays, KS. She also has four grandsons, Ryan Barber (his friend Candace Cunningham and her daughter KaAliyah Williams) Blake Barber (Katie), Brady Barber (Andrea) and Brooks Barber. She also has one great-grandaughter, Simone Barber. Also surviving are her brother Roy Dewbre. She was preceded in death by her father O.C. Dewbre and mother Della Dewbre; her brothers Chet Dewbre, T.O. Dewbre, Ken Dewbre; her sister Pat Womack; and her daughter-in-law Trudy Barber.
Char was selfless, as exemplified by her hard work to put Earl through college, allowing him to continue his love of sports. The sacrifices she made from that point to now were not easy, but she made things better. She accepted life on life's terms and always said, "It is what it is." She was a great wife, mom and friend to many. Her favorite scripture was, Ask and it will be given to you. Seek and you will find and knock and the door will be opened to you...Matthew 7:7-8.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at Ogallah Christian Church. Burial will follow Ogallah Cemetery, Ogallah.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Ogallah Christian Church and Homestead Nutrition Project of Hays, KS. Donations may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 North 12th, WaKeeney, KS 67672.
