Obituary

Carole Jeanine Crist was born June 9, 1932 in St. Joseph, MO, to Galen and Dorothy (Kerns) Huffman. She passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012 in the Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care Facility in Quinter at the age of 79.


Carole graduated from Benton High School in St. Joseph and attended McPherson College before her marriage to D. A. Crist on August 17, 1952. They served in Brethren Volunteer Service together at Bashor Boy's Home in Goshen, IN for two years before moving to Quinter, KS, where she was a homemaker and mother and gave piano lessons. While her boys were in high school, she returned to college at Fort Hays and received her teaching degree in English. She taught at Grainfield and Quinter High School as well as directing numerous school plays. She, along with Alma Golden, directed many Prairie Community Theater productions in the summers.

She was an active member of the Quinter Church of the Brethren where she was especially involved in music and teaching Sunday School.


Survivors include her husband of 59 years, D. A. Crist; two sons, Dan Crist and wife, Janice, of Quinter, Kevin Crist and wife, Mary, of McPherson; three grandchildren, Rachel Crist of Lawrence, Mark Crist and fiancé, Karen Pozzi, of Denver, CO, and Alyese Crist of McPherson; and a brother, Galen Ray Huffman and wife, Karen, of Quinter.


Her parents preceded her in death.

A memorial service for Carole will be 2:30 PM, Sunday, May 6, 2012 in Church of the Brethren at Quinter, KS, with Reverend Keith Funk officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Heifer International or On Earth Peace and can be sent in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 S Main, Quinter, KS 67752.
