Candace Rae (Candy) Austin was born on August 3, 1947, the daughter of Claude Jr and Gladys (Lindsay) Austin.  Candy passed away on January 1, 2024, after a three-year battle of cancer.

Candy attended school in WaKeeney and was a graduate of Trego Community High School. After graduation Candy married R.D. Rothe.  To this marriage was born a son, Travis.  Candy and R.D. later divorced but remained friends.

Candy retired in 2016 after 34 years of working at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital, in several departments, finally in the laundry department.

Survivors include her son, Travis Rothe, Ness City; brother, Rod Austin, WaKeeney; aunt, Ann (Lindsay) Newcomer, WaKeeney; Uncles, Richard Austin, Medicine Lodge and Ron Austin, Idaho; many cousins and many cherished friends.

Candy was preceded in death by her parents and life-long friend, R.D.

Services will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024, 1:30 p.m.  at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney

Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society.
