Calvin Lincoln Hafliger was born February 12, 1925, on the family farm five miles south of WaKeeney, KS, the fifth of six sons born to George and Sarah Abbie (Mumert) Hafliger. He passed away Saturday, November 28, 2009, in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital LTC at WaKeeney. at the age of 84.
He attended Mont Rose School District #51 in rural Trego County as a child.
On March 6, 1947, he married Willa Ruth Gordon in Hays, KS. Calvin farmed for a few years until he began working at the Trego County Coop in WaKeeney and they moved the old farmhouse to town in 1957. He later, began driving a truck for Dean Doxon picking up milk from area dairy farmers and later driving a milk transport to Denver. After Dean retired, Calvin hauled grain for Schreiner Transports until retiring in 1995. Ruth passed away July 10, 2009.
Survivors include a son, David and wife, Linda, of Ogallah; two daughters, Linda Weber and husband, Verlin, of Lawrence, Sandy Schneider and husband, Dave, of WaKeeney; eight grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lloyd Hafliger and wife, Joanne of WaKeeney.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Ruth; an infant son, Larry Wayne Hafliger; an infant sister; and four brothers, Elmer, Walter, Leonard, and Ralph Hafliger.
A memorial service for Calvin will be held Monday, December 28, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney. Inurnment will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.
