Lifelong St. Peter area resident, Bridget Brungardt, passed away Friday, February 22, 2013 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney. She was 92 years of age. She was born, May 17, 1920, on the family farm near St. Peter, the daughter of Gottfried and Barbara (Billinger) Knoll.
Bridget Knoll was united in marriage to Seraphine Brungardt on May 3, 1938, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Peter. They enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage together, until Seraphine's death on March 24, 1988. Bridget was a proud homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with family and especially cherished all of her grandchildren. She was known among family and friends for her talent in the kitchen; she shared that talent with many as she cooked at the grade school for many years. In her more active years, she was very generous with her time in helping older people with just about anything. Bridget enjoyed embroidery, gardening, word seek puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and playing Yahtzee with her grandchildren. She had a special devotion to God, as she was committed to a daily prayer life. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, having served on the parish council for many years. She was also a Eucharistic minister and lifetime member and past president of the St. Anthony's Christian Mothers.
She will be missed by many friends and family. Surviving family include 2 sons Frank Brungardt and wife Donna of St. Peter and Dennis Brungardt of Lake Charles Louisiana; 4 daughters Phyllis and husband Dick Martine of Wichita, Rosalita and husband Mel Geci of Raleigh, North Carolina, Sarah and husband Tony Herman of St. Peter, and Therese and husband Jim Staab of Hays; 3 sisters Barbara Solze of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Dorothy Sauer of Wichita, and Sylvia and husband Eugene Sauer of St. Peter; sister-in-law Edith Knoll and brother-in-law Harvey Coen, both of Garden City; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and 14 step great-great grandchildren.
