Obituary

Betty Jean Werth was born January 14, 1932, in rural Ellis County, KS, to the late John and Regina (Bieker) Jacobs. She passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010 in the Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care in Quinter at the age of 78.

As a young child, she attended country schools in rural Ellis County.

On October 10, 1949, she was united in marriage to Harold Werth in Antonino, KS. Together they farmed in Sheridan County for over sixty years.

Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Park. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Betty enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and made many afghans which her family and friends enjoyed. She loved doing crafts and had a wonderful touch with flower and vegetable gardening and flower arrangements.

Those left to mourn her passing are her husband, Harold of Quinter; two sons, Neil and wife, Cecelia, of Hays, Harold Jr. and wife, Lois, of Quinter; a daughter, Michelle Houser and husband, Lonnie, of Quinter; a daughter-in-law, Charlene Werth, of Park; twelve grandchildren, Rachelle Patterson and husband, Butch, Laurie Landaverde and husband, Freddie, Amy Polifka and husband, Justin, Jessie Ingram and husband, Johnny, Abby Werth, Jason Werth, Clinton Werth, Derek Werth, Shane Werth, Aaron Werth, Audrey Nordman and husband, John, Chris Werth; eleven great-grandchildren, Whitney, Christina, and Kyle Patterson, Braden and Camden Polifka, Matt, Vancampen, Logan, Millie, and Meagan Ingram, Vivian and Adrian Nordman; a brother, Vernon Jacobs and wife, Gladys, of Wichita; two sisters, Janice Kaba and husband, Jim, of Plainville, Georgine Fisher and husband, Alfred, of Palco; a sister-in-law, Elsie Jacobs of Denver, CO; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Milke of Hays.

Those preceding her in death were a son, Leon Werth; a brother, Harvey Jacobs; and three sisters, Alma Leiker, Joyce Jacobs, and Vera Milke; a daughter-in-law, Millie Werth; and a great-grandson, Hudson Polifka.

Visitation will be 5-7:30 PM Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter with vigil service at 7:30 PM. Services are 10:00 AM Friday, September 17, 2010 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Park, KS with Father James Thomas officiating. Interment is in the church cemetery.
