Betty V. Rhoades, 93, died June 21,2012 at Longmont, Colorado.
She was born March 25, l919 in Cloud County, Kansas to Charles and Maude (Oelkers) Rogers. When she was a year old, the family moved to Trego County. She attended rural Ford school--north of Ogallah, and high schools in WaKeeney and Hill City, Kansas.
On January 4, l938, she was united in marriage to Joseph Rhoades. To this union, one daughter, Sharon was born. Betty was a stay at home Mom and kept the books for the family business, Rhoades Oil Company.
After retirement, Betty and Joe enjoyed going to auctions and collecting glassware. They also had farm and cattle interests. Her hobbies were reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting and needlepoint. She loved music and dancing. Family gatherings with her family always included a song fest. She had been a member of the local line dance group since its beginning in 1993.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a 65 year member of American Legion Auxiliary, both of WaKeeney.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her parents, two brothers (Warren and LaVerne Rogers), four sisters (Ruth Corcoran, Mildred Gammon, Jeanne Bottger, Faieth Rhoades), and 11 nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Rhoades of Longmont, CO, sister Erma Hillman of Powell, WY, brother Bill Rogers of Mercersburg, PA, sister-in-law Fran Rogers of Los Alamos, NM, and 29 nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Betty will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, June 26, 2012 in the WaKeeney City Cemetery with PMA Marla Deines officiating. No Visitation is planned.
